Pick a weight that challenges you! To what? A game of chess, a pie eating competition 🤷🏽‍♀️ You hear/read this frequently and I’ve even said it myself & then be astonished when someone’s picked up the 3kg dumbbells 😱 So let’s break this statement down. In most exercise programmes you will be required to work for a set number of repetitions or an allotted amount of time. To CHALLENGE yourself you need to be able to complete the repetitions or continue to work for the full time, but ONLY JUST!! Towards the last couple of reps or last few seconds, your muscles should start to fatigue. It should be difficult for example to fully extend in a squat. Your legs might be shaking a little and your heart rate should definitely increase. You don’t have a heart rate monitor.. no problem. Does it feel like your heart is beating faster, is there sweat on your brow? Yes! Then good, you’re challenging yourself. You should not finish your reps or time, with enough energy to break into a dance routine with full on vocal accompaniment, but instead need to take the full rest period you’ve been set. While resting, your heart rate should slow down and your muscles should feel like they’ve got some life back in them. At the end of your session, your muscles should feel tired, you should feel tired 😉 & maybe slightly sore. If you’ve really CHALLENGED yourself you should feel ALIVE, EXHILARATED & pumping for the next session 💪🏼😃 So next time someone says ‘Pick a weight that challenges you’....... DO IT!!!! . . Grilled chicken with avocado salad was our dinner tonight. Big Daddy was not a fan! (He preferred @annieshomegrown Reese’s mac and cheese) Chicken Marinade 3 TBS olive oil 2 tsp paprika 2 tsp cumin Salt and Pepper I only let the chicken marinate for 30 min. 🔥Intense Leg Workout 🏋🏻‍♀️➡️ ⭐️ Deadlifts x 5 reps ⭐️ 1&1/4 rep Front foot elevated split squats (8 per side). Superset with barbell hip thrusts x 10 🍑 (trust me, I was DYING) - did take 30 seconds rest between exercises 🤫 ⭐️Heels elevated smith machine high bar squats x 12. These place a large emphasis on the quads as the knee joint is further away from the center of gravity than normal squats. ⭐️ Cable pull throughs x 15 ⭐️ 2 rounds of glute finisher (30-40 reps of banded glute bridges & hip abduction) I’ve upped my game with training at the moment and am definitely seeing the rewards 👏🏼. Workout Wednesday . . I’m a big fan of circuits! So here is an Upper Body based circuit. Add it i to one of your workouts! . . This can be done from home with just dumbbells - just 3-10lbs is enough for beginners especially. . . 1️⃣Get your heart pumping with jumping jacks. Do a modified jack for bad knees or add a band around your toes for advanced! 2️⃣Bicep curl into hammer curl 3️⃣Dumbbell Row 4️⃣Dumbbell Tricep Kickback 5️⃣1/2 bicep curl with external rotation. 6️⃣Squat to shoulder press . . During a circuit I typically do 1 min off with 30 sec on. You can change the time or even go for certain reps. . . Double tap and save! . . Who loves upper body day?⬇️

SUPERSETS the BOOTY!⠀ .⠀ Oh my gozzzhhhh. 🍑🔥You gotta give this a try!⠀ -⠀ 1 - HYPER EXTENSION X HIP ABDUCTIONS - keep your head low to prevent from lifting with your back. Squeeze your glutes 2 seconds at the top! Do 15 reps and then go straight into the 30sec abductions. Rest 1 min and repeat 3 times before moving on to number 2!⠀ -⠀ 2 - SINGLE LEG GLUTE BRIDGE X LUNGES - this one is BRUTAL. Well, they all are after a while lol. Do both legs!! 12 reps each, then start with the lunges ASAP! As many reps as possible. Next set you start with the opposite leg! Rest 2 min between sets and complete 4 sets before moving on to number 3!⠀ -⠀ 3 - KETTLEBELL SQUATS X MONSTER WALK WITH BICEP CURLS - do 10 reps then switch arm and do another 10 reps. Go straight into the monster walk and perform as many reps as possible. Rest 1min between sets and do 3 sets. DONE!!! 3 snippets of each compound lift and how they are going this week! Hitting some great weight at a 7-8 out of 10 rpe. ⁣ ⁣ This week:⁣ Squats 102.5kg (better than comp YAY) 5x2⁣ Bench press 55kg PAUSE! And also better than comp.⁣ Deadlifts (still projected 140kg like comp) hitting 125&127.5kg 5x2 this week. ⁣ ⁣ I'm stoked with how my body is feeling at the moment as I'm feeling healthy and strong despite lifting heavy. I out this down to training at a 6-8 rpe range at all times at the moment and watching my strength go up from there.⁣ ⁣ I'm also eating 3300 calories a day, thus food intake is helping my pre training strength and post workout recovery.⁣ ⁣ All in all I LOVE MY TRAINING. ❤️ All outfits: @ryderwear ALYSHA10 for discount

⠀ Whole body workouts are my go-to for clients who are only getting to the gym a few times a week because of schedule or other limitations. ⠀ ⠀ This way we are hitting all muscle groups head to toe in a single session, toning and strengthening all over. Whole body doesn’t mean pink dumbbells and we stick to heavier weights here, too. ⠀ ⠀ Here are a few ideas for building a quality whole body workout: ⠀ ✓ Circuit workout. 6-10 exercises done one after another with a very short rest in between. The circuit is repeated for 2-4 rounds. ⠀ ✓ Timed sets. 1-4 exercises performed for a given time. Say, Squat for as many set as possible in 20 minutes. Then, lunge and leg press for another 15 minutes. Finish with sled work for 7 minutes. ⠀ ✓ Supersets for opposing muscle groups. Pairing chest with back, hamstrings with quads, for example. My journey hasn’t been easy but who said life was easy anyway! From being 180 lbs unhappy with myself to 130lbs happy af of the women I have become! Bench press/leg lift combo workout 💪🏻 I came up with this workout the other day and I loved how many muscle groups I was engaging so I thought I’d share the move. (I try to mostly do moves that target more than one area at a time, because you know #busymomlife 😆) Do 3 sets of 15 reps.
