A psychologist named John Gottman conducted a well known experiment where he watched couples argue. These couples were asked to talk about a disagreement in which an observer analysed their interaction. In the end, Gottman took note of what he called “the four horsemen of the apocalypse” - Criticism, Contempt, Defensiveness and Stonewalling. ⁣ ⁣ He found that couples who used these horsemen during their arguments were far more likely to split up than those who found more respectful ways to disagree. With this being said, most relationships will exhibit these behaviours at times however healthy relationships are aware of them, don’t use them nearly as often and do more to repair them when they are used.

To my friends I haven’t spent time with, — The last serval months have been about figuring me out. In the last 6 months I’ve been up, and I’ve been down. My ups have been HIGH and my downs have been LOW. I mean as high as the sky, then as low as you can go. It’s not fun, just so you all know. I exited an emotionally abusive, toxic and mentally damaging relationship. I’ve been a distant parent even when I’m in the same room. I went from an outgoing, social butterfly, to a closed off, room dweller. I’m working everyday to get my mind back together, to get my mood back together and to get ME back. Thank you for loving me, thank you for being patient with me. I love you, friends. I don’t need to point you out; if you feel it applies, it probably does. I owe a lot of missed drinks, missed dinner dates, missed celebrations. Healing trauma. The word trauma carries with it a big and heavy energy. Most people when they read trauma, deny having any. Maybe if we created a different word, it would be easier to accept. If we used the word stories perhaps? 💛 A lot of the time we aren’t even aware of our trauma. Maybe we could go our whole lives, busy and distracted, to avoid going there. I think many of us have coping strategies, guarding mechanisms that prevent our trauma from being uncovered. 💛 The thing with trauma is, that it often creates a belief system that manifests in a lot of our suffering. Maybe something as seemingly insignificant as a 5-year old being told off for singing too loudly created shame around self expression. As an adult this person finds it hard to talk about themselves, share their feelings or their needs? 💛 I am not a psychologist, though I studied it at uni. I don’t claim to know how to heal trauma. I just know that from my own experience, unveiling my stories which led to my limiting beliefs, like “I am not good enough” was the beginning of my healing. Shining the light on these wounds, made them less painful in time. Helped me to understand my life choices. 💛 Going into the discomfort, with practices like meditation, gave me the power to choose my own narrative. ✨Compassion✨ The original caption (below) explained the importance of compassion so beautifully that I had to re-share it 💛 ・・・ #Repost @evolve.now ・・・ Most of our past experiences are reinforced into our present when we do not process them completely. When we either reject or avoid what arises within, we are likely sinking it into our subconscious mind to deal with it later. . Meeting suffering as an opportunity to awaken compassion within instead of an obstacle we must get rid of, helps us to hold the presence and space for it to dissolve without being reinforced. . Everything becomes more open to change when we change the way we relate to it. When instead of meeting what arises with resistance and reinforcing inner conflict, we can turn inward and hold a compassionate presence for what is temporarily passing through us, we more easily heal and break the cycle of our past, without continuously recreating it. . With awareness we can recognize the movements within us as reactions and as mostly a product of our past, and not become fully absorbed or identified with it. And with compassion we can then hold the necessary space for it to dissolve without being reinforced by our resistance. . As we become the gentle presence for what passes through us, instead of being in conflict with it, we free ourselves from our past and create the openness to invite what most support us instead. 💛

What i ve got here right from my favourite esoteric bookstore? Welcome my new babies: tarot cards von #aleistercrowley and #fridaharris and healing cards with the messages for an everyday life. Especially i like to use smth like that when i work with patients as a #craniosacral therapist or #kundalini yoga teacher or a #prenatal yoga teacher. I know that psychologists use #tarot cards as one of the instrument to learn yourself better, your subconscious part and to understand your situation better and what could be done. One of the reasons why I truly love exploring nature & the outdoors on my own. 🌿⁣ ⁣ ⁣ When I read this quote I immediately was brought back to memories of my solo hikes. Sometimes when I wander I wonder if others who see me on the trail think I am lonely because it is often rare to see others exploring alone. Every time I safely explore solo (sometimes with a group too) I become fully present and feel so connected to the world around me. I also come back to civilization with so much more gratitude and compassion. Authentically Me. _ More often than not, we look at the finished product of someone's hard work that may have taken months or even years to achieve. We question why we aren't there yet? Questioning why can't we do the same things or look the same way as the people we admire. Simply put, we need to stop looking at other people to carve what our path looks like. I learned this the hard way when it came to my journey in dance. _ In the past, almost every dance class I attended, I would become so anxious to be 'perfect' and to fit the mold of what I felt I should dance like. I would gaze around the room and see the other dancers, and feel less adequate to share the same space. I would forget choreography because I put so much pressure on not messing up. I would cycle through the choreography over and over in my head and dance through it till it was embedded in my muscles. Fully retaining the movements and within seconds of anticipating performing it, my mind and body would draw a blank. The feeling always frustrated me and kept me in a pattern of never trusting my dance abilities. Dancing had always made me feel free, but the second I was around others, I felt the need to prove my worth as a dancer so intensely that it caused me to be inauthentic and crushed my self worth. Why did it matter if I danced like the girl next to me and why did I compare myself to everyone else when my training was different and my body's strengths and weaknesses were vastly different? _ The question came up- why do I love to dance? -I can truly express my emotions through my movement. -I can move my body in such a way that feels therapeutic. -I can impact others through this art form. So then why did I subtract all of the reasons why I love to dance when it was time for me to dance? The answer is I never believed I could. But here I am, 28 years old.....living as authentic as possible and not apologizing for one second of it. I no longer fear vulnerability, I don't fear making mistakes so I will never again fear what my body is meant to do and that is Dance. _ #authentic #dance #journey #therapy #movement #love #passion #dancing #strength #artistry #body #mindset #improvisation

En el post anterior hablé de la importancia de establecer límites para tener relaciones sanas con unx mismx y con lxs demás. Además, mencioné lo más importante que debemos saber acerca de los límites: que deben ser flexibles, que existen para ayudarnos a satisfacer necesidades y nos ayudan a conectarnos con nosotrxs mismxs. Suena muy “bonito” hablar de las ventajas que tiene establecer límites sobre nuestras relaciones, pero la verdad es que hacerlo puede ser muy complejo; especialmente si estamos acostumbrados a tener relaciones que no respetan fronteras tanto físicas como emocionales y psicológicas. Tener relaciones saludables no quiere decir que éstas son “perfectas”; quiere decir que son relaciones conformadas por personas que se conocen, saben lo que quieren y pueden respetar y comunicar lo que desean y lo que desea el/la otrx. Para poder tener relaciones sanas, debemos empezar por plantear límites que nos protejan y que nos ayuden a conocernos y a diferenciarnos de lxs demás. Life is full of cycles. Be present. Leave the past behind. Focus on the now and don't worry about the future. Granted it’s easier said than done, but it’s important to be conscious of the fact that nothing in life is linear. We all have and will continue having a fair share of moments where we rise and fall. One day we’ll be in cloud nine and the next we may find ourselves hitting rock bottom, to then soon after be soaring again. It doesn’t imply we’re doomed or cursed. It means there are lessons to be learned, attitudes to be changed, beliefs to be modified. Each period of trials is meant to teach you something that you need to realize, whether it’s about yourself, others or the world. Each ordeal is meant to be a journey of discovery and growth, and each process, regardless of its length, will have its ups and downs. Don’t be dismayed. It’s not a punishment. You don’t need to implore for redemption. You need to adjust your sight and examine the situation. Why do I keep coming back to this point? Why is life always leading me this way? What’s hindering my progress? What’s impeding me to move on? Instead of answering with self-defeating and self-deprecating words that will consume you one by one, search for alternatives that most likely will be the most reliable. The great moments of your life won't necessarily be the things you do, they'll also be the things that happen to you. I m not saying u can't take action to affect the outcome of your life, you have to take action, and you will, But never forget that on any day you can step out the front door and your whole life can change forever. You see the universe has a plan and that plan is always in motion. Just thinking about how much we have in common. How easy it is to overlook our shared humanity. How quick we can be to 'other' people, and give into the false sense of separateness, and forget our inherent connection to one another. How we often forget to pause and remember the people around us are also human, also figuring it out, also wanting these things. How often we judge in others what we do not know how to hold within ourselves. How often we admire in others what we forget we also contain. How many have had to abandon themselves to feel even a glimmer of these things. How naturally we offer others the very things we believe we don't deserve. How common it is to feel like we're the only ones. How the story of what we believe about ourselves was often conceived even before we were. How we all want similar outcomes. How we are mirrors of what we see and we see what's mirrored back. I'm not 100% sure about any of this, but I am sure I'm not the only one exploring these things and wanting to really grasp onto the truth of how wildly similar and connected we are underneath the built-up idea of disconnection. No conclusions, solutions, reminders, tips or tools today. Just a reflection that you may be reflecting on too, and some words about the wildness of being a human, and a meditation on how much I want to see the humanness in everyone I come across, and an inkling of remembering the depth of connection that is always here, even when we forget. 💫

A lot of clients will tell me that even after treatment they can feel like anxiety still rests at about a 3/10 even on good days. They describe this as feeling more alert, more sensitive and yes- also more anxious than they would have hoped to feel. Most clients also want to get rid of this experience. . . Being a sensitive, attuned person means that our baseline levels of vigilance and alertness naturally run higher- we are programmed to be “on the lookout” for possible danger. Part of good recovery lies in accepting this as part of who we are and allowing this to be a part of what it means to be us. . . I know this isn’t ideal, and I know there are probably many times when that 3/10 shoots up to a 9/10, but also some times when maybe, just for a day or so- you feel almost no buzzing at all 😌 Notice these fluctuations without becoming attached to needing them to be anything but what they are, just our brains doing what our brains do!
