2019 USAPL Raw Nats- 105k open class 4th place . . . 9 for 9 good lifts Squat- 310k/683.4lbs Bench- 263k/579.8lbs Deadlift- 302.5k/666.8lbs \m/ Total- 875.5k/1930.1lbs . . . These were from one of the last times I went to the gym, which was almost two weeks ago. 😱 But it’s okay because I’m in JAPAN. 🤪 Everything is so beautiful and amazing! I’m walking at least 20k steps a day, sweating so much, feet hurting so much, but I’m itching to lift again. I’m debating if I should find somewhere close by to do a quick session with all my compound lifts. 🤔 but what is proper gym etiquette and gym attire here?? Pretty sure not how I act and what I wear. 😅 . One of the first thing you see coming into our gym @southbaystrengthco the members at SBSC say “our gym” it’s been a family group collective since day 1 of opening and we plan on keeping it that way. - I’m about to start prep for my first meet which means maxing out to see where I’m at. Last week I went to a meet, ate all the Korean BBQ and damn near vomited everywhere pulling this. Lesson learned who eats all you can eat KBBQ and maxes out at 10:30 at night THIS IDIOT LOL. I was tired and sore as fuck but @rizz9321 was there for me and slapped me to hell and back. In the 3 plate club with a 20 lb PR I’ll take it for inconsistent training. Super excited what @veggie_lifter has in store for me for my prep. It’s go time.

HOW TO BUILD YOUR SHOULDERS 💪 - The keys to building bigger shoulders are not much different than most other muscle groups. - 1️⃣. This is the first of 9 posts we’re doing from what took place yesterday. We used to combine our competitions into 1 post and we’re humbled and blessed to be in a place in which we can no longer do that. Stay tuned for a complete onslaught. • Our team traveled to Philadelphia to compete at the 2019 @usapowerlifting Fall Philly Showdown. • We brought 8 athletes, and our team went 68/72 on all-attempts (I put 69 in our story yesterday but that was incorrect, sorry, my day was a little busy), and we collected 24 Personal Records, 3🥇Gold Medals, 2🥈Medals, and 1🥉Bronze Medal. Last but certainly not least, we brought Brittany Turner who hit the highest Female score in the entire competition. • I’m humbled to coach alongside my wife, DS co-owner, and fellow powerlifter, Angela @angelafitvc in which I could not have coached this meet without her assistance. Thanks babe, I love you. • Special thanks to the amazing folks at @dcamposfitness for hosting an excellent meet, our fellow competitors for pushing ALL of my athletes to rise up, especially Nick and the excellent lifters of @cedarstreetbarbell who it was a pleasure to compete against and network with. Shorter rest intervals are always believed to be superior due to the increased metabolic stress i.e. the "burning" sensation that muscles feel. Though metabolic stress does drive muscle growth (..and give you a crazy pump after your session), your muscles will struggle to a lift as heavy / perform as many reps as you would if you rested for a bit longer. - A study by Dr Bard Schoenfield (2016) proved that longer rest periods promote greater increases in muscle strength and hypertrophy. This is because with longer rests, you will be able to achieve more total volume in your workout, which in turn results in greater muscle size and strength gain.💥 - With that being said, this doesn’t mean sleep in between your sets and annoy people waiting to use the equipment... save that for rest day 😂. Optimum times vary slightly but to summarise, keep compound movements (e.g. 3-5 reps heavy) rest at between 3-4 mins and isolation and other less taxing movements (e.g. 8-12 reps) around 2 mins (or less if adequately rested). Ultimately you want to listen to your body, not everyone recovers at the same time/rate. You will know when you feel rested but there’s no need to rush and feel that you will not make sufficient gains if you take a slightly longer rest after your set. - So, your workouts may take a little longer but hey - you lifted more total VOLUME.. and you will be making more gains! 💪🏽🔥 . 📲TAG a friend who doesnt rest enough between sets 🤐. . #restperiod #pushday #pullday#squat #squats #glutes #quads #hamstrings #yoga #fitness #mobilitywod #flexibility #physicaltherapy #yogi #bodybuilding #weekendyoga #deadlift #personaltrainer #hypertrophy #legday #workout #yogaformen #physio #irishfitfam #idoportal #idoportalmethod #myodetox #mobility #yogafit #iifym

USAPL Raw Nationals 2019 was one of my favorites by far. Ended up totaling 827.5kg/1823lbs a 12.5kg total PR. Squatted 292.5kg/645lb, benched 190kg/419lb and deadlifted 345kg/760lbs to secure 3rd place on the last pull of the night. Amazing competing alongside these guys, excited to get better for next time.
