Excited about my new spice tin. Each of these spices has its own healing properties which is why, in India and many other culture, food is also medicine. 🍲 — I Can’t wait to start cooking traditional Ayurvedic postpartum recipes for new mamas in the UK and Europe during their Slow Postpartum . 🥰 - Today I made a batch of fresh garam masala in the #thermomix . It smells divine!! 😍 - #slowpostpartum #postpartum #postnatal #slowliving #simpleliving #postpartumnutrition #postpartumcook #travellingdoula #internationaldoula #thegoldenmonth #thefirstfortydays

I received an enquiry from a beautiful person wanting to gift Post Partum care to a new Mum (this is how it’s done!) over a 4 week period. I sent through 3 personalised packages...knowing that photography was something they wanted included. Here’s a glimpse of what I sent, with package 2 outlined in detail: My primary role as your Post Partum Doula is to give you the time, space and support to fall in love with, and feed your baby. At each visit, I'll come into your home and assess what, in particular, you need that day. You will be loved up. You will be supported. You will be listened to. You will be fed, hydrated and we will feel the sunshine on our skin and laughter fill our souls each day. You will be given the time to take a long hot shower, or bath, while I hold and care for your baby. When you’re ready, we will debrief to gain a deeper understanding of your birth story. We'll come up with an easy to follow, practical care plan which will be laid out on a small white board as a simple, daily visual reminder for you. Package 2 8 in home visits . * Practical Breastfeeding support. Special access to lactation expert, @maternalinstinctsbyamberley breastfeeding education series . * Practical Babywearing supportand guidance, I'll bring 3 babywearing pieces to try in home. Special access to babywearing expert @brookemaree.babywearing babywearing video series , * 12 nutritious meals, ready to eat, delivered to your door (dependant on your dietary requirements as outlined in your intake form) . * Handmade Bliss Balls (using high quality, organic ingredients) . * A selection of nutritious ingredients for smoothies . * Newborn/New Family photos captured in the comfort of your own home, during this Post Partum period. Relaxed, documentary style photography capturing the authentic moments with your new baby and new family in your Post Partum bubble . * Access to me via phone, text or email Post Partum care is crucial. It’s impossible to plan every detail because we literally don’t know how the family is going to feel but having a plan, is the care factor security everyone needs✨ . 📸 @ripsnorter , @nickwpotts and Baby Zeven, in their magical PP bubble 💫

Over the past few months, there have been many changes in my life as I have sought to live more in alignment with my values and the philosophy of simple and slow living.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ As with any period of change or transformation, some of this has not been easy. It has been a period of releasing. Of spending time thinking deeply about the things that are important to me and the things that I had to let go of in order to make more space for what truly matters. Turning away from what wasn't serving me and trusting that I will be ok. Some of what I had to leave behind was dear to me. A home, a business, possessions, relationships and friendships. I had to let go in order to move forward. At times this has been exhilarating, at times truly terrifying. - ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I now find myself in a different part of the world. A place where my heart and spirit feels at peace. A place with a slower and simpler pace of life. 🌳 🌸 🌓 Where I look forward to discovering new connections and reconnecting with past friendships. A place where I hope to share my message of a #slowpostpartumrevolution with mothers and families in order to bring peace & joy to the first few weeks after the birth of their babies.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I'd love to hear what you have let go of in order to live more slowly and simply. Let's share and inspire each other!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ And if you know of a mama to be who may want support to create a Slow Postpartum sanctuary with her new baby later in the year, please do let her know of my work. I have a limited amount of boutique postpartum doula support packages available later in the year and in 2020 and am available to travel internationally.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ With love Jojo x 💖⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ #slowpostpartum #postpartum #slowpostpartumrevolution #postpartumrecovery #slowliving #postpartumplan #thefourthtrimester #thegoldenmonth #thesittingmoon #thesacredwindow #lifeafterbirth #caringfornewmothers #postpartumdoula #birth #pregnancy #newmother #thefirstfortydays #internationaldoula #londondoula #pregnantlondon

Thank you @sarahhamiltonbirth for quoting me in your post 🥰 - ・・・ @slowpostpartum nails this 🙌🏼 there is a lot of great information and guidance around and often so easily accessible to us. Flash back to when I was two days postpartum and had no damn business casually taking selfies in Target. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I should have been home resting, recovering and bonding with my newborn. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Instead, I was grabbing last minute items to cook a Thanksgiving meal for myself and my in-laws who were on their way into town. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Again, something I had no business doing. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Even though I had been through postpartum once before, I still had no clue that postpartum was supposed to be a time of rest. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I was more concerned about proving myself as a competent mom of 2 and “bouncing back” than actually allowing myself to be taken care of and growing into my new role. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I learned the hard way and a little too late that we should slow down during the early weeks and months postpartum. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Ideally, the first days and weeks should be a time of rest, nourishing meals and support from friends and family. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Society has minimized the importance of having support for mothers after birth. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ It’s time for that to change. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Just like our babies, we too have just been born. We need to be mothered and nurtured as we grow. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ It’s time for us to feel connected and feel confident in this new season. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Reclaim postpartum.

As the essential oils filled the room, the fire crackled and the music played softly in the background, I don’t remember what they were talking about, I just remember being overwhelmed by the love in their eyes for each other, their connectedness, their calmness, the way they reached out to touch each other; either with interlocking fingers, a kiss on the forehead or a loving, passing caress that said “I got you, babe” ❤️ . Watching their faces light up with excitement while reliving their birth story is something I’ll never forget. Laughing about hoses spraying water all over the room while trying to protect the one crystal that should never get wet, is something I can only imagine but they relived and laughed together and gosh it was so beautiful. . That sacred Post Partum bubble was consciously curated and protected by these two beautiful people, so undeniably in love, not only with the person they’d created together but with each other 💫 . I love this photo of @ripsnorter and @nickwpotts because these moments matters 💞 . #protectpostpartum #slowpostpartum #thesemomentsmatter

A 'Slow Postpartum' encourages us to honour and respect the potent and transformational weeks after giving birth, by allowing time and space to rest deeply, restore, heal and rejuvenate.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ It’s about embracing centuries-old postpartum rituals that focus on caring for a new mother to in order to give her the time and space that she needs and desires to bond, nurture and fall in love with her new baby. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ To do a ‘Slow Postpartum’ is to resist societal pressure to ‘bounce back’ immediately after giving birth, but instead to see the value of ‘snuggling in’ for a period of time in order to prioritise falling deeply in love, healing and recovery. This will have lifelong benefits, not only for you but for also for your children, family and society at large.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ * From my e-book 'The Six Secrets to a Slow Postpartum'. It’s a free download with the Link in the bio 😊- - ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ #slowpostpartum #postpartum #slowpostpartumrevolution #postpartumrecovery #slowliving #postpartumplan #thefourthtrimester #thegoldenmonth #thesittingmoon #thesacredwindow #lifeafterbirth #caringfornewmothers #postpartumdoula #birth #pregnancy #newmother #thefirstfortydays #internationaldoula #londondoula #pregnantlondon

As a Doula, I'm consistently asked the question "How many births have you been to now!?" and I can happily say that it's not an insanely high number. While pregnancy, birth and postpartum has been my world {personally} over the last 13 years, I'm still a newer Doula! I've only been Doulaing for a year and a half and I'm honestly still finding my flow. It takes time! ☆ Right now finding work/life/home balance is important for me. I'm still a SAHM to my two youngest kids who aren't in school yet and quality time with my older two school aged kids is priority whenever possible. I work casually at the hospital and have a lot of hobbies and interests that I need to pursue in order to stay sane and happy! ☆ That being said, I only take on 1-2 births per season right now, and take on fertility and postpartum clients by appointment. Maybe in a few years this will change and I'll take on a little bit more, but until then, I practice what I preach by taking things slow and creating balance. ♡

I can’t believe it’s nearly been four weeks since Luna arrived. Today was my third day out of the house and out of my newborn bubble with my little tribe. . So grateful my family are here to help me work out how to leave the house and take photos which aren’t selfies 🤣. . So super happy though I took the time to have three slow weeks resting, bonding & soaking up Luna in the house without too many distractions (except the cranky husband & emotional toddler 🤪). . Best accessory now I’m wrangling energizer bunny River while holding a sleeping Luna who likes to be close is my ring sling from @mumma_etc. . #lunaheart #ecovillage #postpartum #threeweeksold #veganmum #slowpostpartum #threeweekspostpartum #sunnydays #winter #earthing #dontownshoes #grateful #familytime #mytribe

3 months earthside today and officially the end of our 4th trimester. Why does it have to go so fast!!! My heart explodes each time you learn something new, giggle and laugh with mama and show me a new trick but at the same time I get sad because my tiny (well 🧐) baby is growing so fast. It’s so true that the newborn stage doesn’t last long at all so cherish each and every moment!!! The 4the trimester is such a special bonding time. People put so much pressure on mamas to do this, also that, don’t do this, don’t do that!!You know what I say is DO YOU!! Enjoy this time mama! Lose yourself in this baby bliss. Surrender, close your eyes and soak in every minute of that newborn newness 😍 hold them, cuddle them, feed them, rock them - do whatever feels right for YOU! Trust your baby. Forget the clock. Ditch percentiles. And become one with your baby. He is in love with you for a reason – you are his amazing mama and he knows exactly how to guide you 💕 #4thtrimester #3monthsold #MyBaby #Mikah #OurBlessing . . . . . . . . . . #newborn #baby #postpartum #motherhood #letthembelittle #birth #trustyourinstincts #slowdown #parenting #mumlife #birthofamother #gentleparenting #momlife #newbornstage #cutebaby #babiesofinstagram #slowpostpartum

One of the things I love most about Motherhood is the limitless swing of ordinary and extraordinary moments that can happen in a day. They’re nearly always the same thing, in fact. Hanging baby clothes on the line, washing bottles, changing diapers - all moments that seem normal and yet insane - I made a person. I am a Mother. It’s these ordinary messy moments I love the most and they tend to be the ones that don’t get captured - which I am going to try and remedy. Because when I look back on my life, I want to remember the dirty clothes, the bottles in the sink. The thousand bum changes and the gentle hum of a life being lived in all the inbetweens. Here’s an inbetween moment of me and my wild boy in our windy town, taking an ordinary stroll on an ordinary day in an extraordinarily ordinary way 💕 . . . . . . . . #gratitude #grateful #happy #bliss #tiu #tiumama #pregnancy #wellness #health #maternity #ayurveda #postpartum #digdownriseup #yoga #meditation #selfcare #mother #motherhood #love #baby #babies #slowmotherhood #slowpostpartum #slowliving #wildmotherhood #wild #staywild #love #remywild

"Being born just puts your baby on the other side of your skin. Your body is still essential to her well-being. She draws her security and stability from your smell, your feel, your voice, the rise and fall of your chest, and your heartbeat. Without you, her own breathing and heart rate are less stable and her stress level rises." The Breastfeeding Family . "Your baby doesn't magically turn into a different life form at the moment of birth - she is the same person she was just a minute before. So, the first three months of life are like a fourth trimester, and should be treated as gentle entry into this world - with respect and loving care." Elizabeth Pantley . "The baby and you are one unit; that doesn't change just because she is outside now. This doesn't mean that you can't put her down. Just know you need your baby as much as she needs you." Binnie A. I have recently landed in paradise. 💕 Back in the beautiful picture perfect Devonshire village where I lived twenty years ago and where my son was born. 🥰- - I’m going to be spending some time here over the next few months reconnecting with the ancient, fertile and magical countryside of South West England and exploring what it means to live #Slow. . -- I’ll also be looking forward to caring for and supporting new mothers and families in the UK and Europe who are looking to reap the many benefits of a Slow Postpartum. - - If you know of any families that may need support please do let them know. 😊 - - In the meantime I look forward to keeping you all up to date with my #slowpostpartum adventures. In a society where young women are more concerned about the state of thier eyebrows than the state that we are left in when birth is DONE to us and we are the passengers in an experience that you are not able to find your way out of, is it no wonder so many are left with birth trauma? . Where we are bonded to a medical maternity system that lures us in with false hopes of safety and security to then 'turn' on us at the last minute, strangers invading our bodies and private space, sabotaging of birth plans, helping us along to birth quicker while harming at the same time in subtle and more obvious ways by creating the very emergency you was hoping to avoid - then 'oh look you needed us you were in danger!' they will tell you Birth is DANGEROUS outside the hospital (of course that is false, but many care providers would have you believe that) . Where we are given synthetic hormones in a pill to mask or suppress our periods and the related symptoms. . Where it's not ok to feel a range of emotions other than completely happy and we are not taught how to express the rage or spiralling inwards by pushing the energy into creativity, journaling, meditation, exercise and natural movement to music instead of turning to binging, alcohol or drugs . We are constantly downloading messages from childhood about our bodies, how we should act, what we should or shouldn't wear, how many people or what types of people we should sleep with - mostly confusing and again suppressing our need to be free and love ourselves and want to show it off if that's what we feel like . Where we are taught not to hold our baby too much and ensure they sleep separately from day 1, fit them into a neat convenient box of 3 hourly feeds and sleeps which can spiral mothers into anxiety when they are not following the prescribed schedule and hate the celeb endorsed moses basket and 1k all frills included pram. . We are creating a perfect recipe for women and people starting parenthood feeling broken, not fully in thier bodies , disempowered and cut off from their creative energies and intuition *CONTINUES IN COMMENTS*

After birth everything feels tender, sore and just plain raw. Steeped healing herbs used in a bath is a great way to relax the mind and body, promote tissue repair and reduce inflammation. Especially for the birther's perineum and baby's umbilical cord stump. •°• You can purchase postpartum sitz bath packs in store and online. You can also make your own using your choice combination of: *Lavender blossom *Plantain leaf *Yarrow flower *Calendula *Chamomile *Comfrey leaf *Red raspberry leaf *Shepherd's purse *Uva Ursi leaf *Witch hazel *Epsom salt/Sea salt (Organic herbs are best to avoid soaking in chemicals!) •°• These steeped herbs can also be used in a peri bottle while using the washroom or made into padcicles for the perineum or cesarean incision. . 📷: @rebornfromwithin

Slow Post Partum 💫 . It’s truly incredible to think of the energetic connection happening right here. While the world continues on its hasty path outside this cocoon, inside, time stands still. There is no rush. Everything can wait. . How long did you wait until you welcomed visitors? Is there anything you wish you’d done differently? . #slowpostpartum #protectpostpartum #thistimematters

🌛MEET THE BABY🌛 . . . What makes a great visitor postpartum? The newborn period is so raw, a new mum is so vulnerable both physically & emotionally. Under her yoga pants & feeding singlet you are likely to find some sore nipples, leaky engorged boobs, a tender c-section scar or swollen peri, not to mention the XL maternity pad. Did I mention her eyes falling out of her head from sheer exhaustion? Don't forget her mama instincts are in FULL FLIGHT protection mode! The ideal visitor values the fourth trimester and all its messy, beautiful, tenderness. The perfect visitor doesn’t just bring a bunch of flowers and a cute jumpsuit for bub, she brings her calming presence and the following; . . . 🌛 A smile & cuddle for mum FIRST, then Dad, then the wonderfully proud siblings, THEN baby . 🌛 A healthy and easily freeze-able meal . 🌛She makes mum a cup of tea, alongside a sweet treat she bought along . 🌛She listens with heart, no advice or judgement . 🌛She acknowledges the amazing birth mum has experienced . 🌛She doesn’t cuddle bub unless mum really insists . 🌛She takes some lovely snaps of mum and bub together . 🌛She doesn’t stay too long! 45 mins to 1-hour max – unless mum is begging her to stay! . 🌛She sends a message after her visit to remind mama how wonderful she is and what an amazing job she is doing . . . I was lucky enough to have some of the loveliest visitors & support after each of my babies were born. What was the kindest, most thoughtful thing a visitor did for you postpartum? What would you add onto this list? . . . Stunning 📷 by @melissajeanbabies

🌛THE HORMONE OF LOVE!🌛 . . . All hail OXYTOCIN! This amazing hormone plays so many roles in the female body. During sex Oxytocin is released and creates that feeling of loved up-ness, (totally made that word up! 🥰) trust, security & relaxation. . . . . Fastforward 9 months later ➡️ 🤰 to labour when Oxytocin causes the uterus to contract, peaking at the time of birth, creating that feeling of EUPHORIA and deep love when your baby is born. Contractions then continue until the placenta is birthed, with high levels of Oxytocin decreasing the risk of bleeding & postpartum haemorrhage. . . . Quiet bonding time after birth with uninterrupted skin to skin and eye contact between mama & baby will BOOST Oxytocin levels. This amazing hormone also impacts the postpartum period. Making mamas more open to emotional support & help. Research has even found Oxytocin aids in healing wounds! . . . But WAIT! Theres more! Oxytocin is released during breastfeeding too. 🍈🍈 This creates feelings of contentment, strengthens the emotional connection toward mama & babe as well as lowering anxiety levels! Oxytocin also makes your baby feel euphoric & sleepy hence the term 'milk drunk' 🥰 . . . WOW! Mind blown?! Our bodies are incredible. Women are ahhhmazing and we are designed to perfection 👌🤸‍♀️ . . . On that note, have a beautiful weekend full of OXYTOCIN boosting activities! Cuddles & kisses or maybe some LOVE 🥰😘 labour, birth and breastfeeding! . . . 📷 by @thehappynewspaper

🌛CONFESSION TIME🌛 . . . I'm 6 years & 3 babies into motherhood & I still doubt myself daily. I constantly second guess myself, wonder if I'm doing enough, or if I'm doing it RIGHT?! Am I spending enough time with each of my kids? Should I be doing more learning activities? Less TV? More mindfulness? Less shouty mum? More natural toys? Less plastic 'crap?' Less sugar? More organic veggies? . . . Sometimes my mind runs away from me and I think of the things I should have done, shouldn't have done or CRAZY things that 'could' have happened. Rare...but POSSIBLE?! 😳🤯 When I turned my back at the park for TWO minutes what if she had run out the gate and onto oncoming traffic?! What if someone snatched her?! What if he fell from that tree and broke a bone? Or knocked his teeth out running up those stairs?! . . . Then, in the whirldwind that is my racing mind. I steady myself. *THIS* is important. The ability to stop and think, what would I tell my best friend or my sister if she told me this? . . . I would tell her that she is doing an amazing job. I would say let them be little, love them and just be yourself. Be your funny, creative, messy self. Your babies want you. Just be with them. On the couch, in the garden, out & about. They don't want the you that's busting your ass exhausted from trying to entertain them all day erryday because you banned TV, or the you that threw out all their tacky Peppa shirts because linen looks way better on an instagram feed. Or the you that is exhausted from cosleeping & breastfeeding because you are too scared of being judged to change. They don't want the YOU that you THINK you should be. All they want the plain, regular, beautifully comforting YOU. You are enough! . . . Do you feel me? Let me know below, I believe so strongly in honest motherhood and sharing our reality, even if its hard . . 💗

🌛RELAX🌛 . . . Here is your little reminder that you aren't a machine! You don't have to do everything. Give yourself a break, lay down and close your eyes when your little one sleeps during the day (Even if its a 20 min catnap!) Don't feel pressured to fall asleep - if you can then go ahead! Otherwise just rest your body. Melt into your mattress and take a nice, long deep breath. The washing can wait, the dirty dishes can wait, the toys scattered across the house will wait. . . . Your physical & mental health cant wait. Taking care of YOU so you can care for your bubba is top priority! . . . 🌛Have a beautiful day! . . 📷 by @stacieswift 💗

“After giving birth to my first son, I tried to race back to my old life so quickly which left me exhausted, emotional, and really struggling with breastfeeding. After my second son, I was much more gentle and patient with myself. I rested more, did more skin to skin with the baby, had less visitors, waited longer to return to exercise, and focused more on my healing. It resulted in a completely different experience. I was so grateful I listened to my intuition and resisted the urge to go, and instead slowed way down to take care of myself. This is so hard to do in modern day motherhood, but the value of rest, recovery, healing, and nourishing a new mom’s body and soul should be encouraged. I have learned so much during my journey in motherhood, and one of the biggest lessons has been to be right where I am–to not rush to the next stage or the next milestone, but instead realize that I am exactly where I am supposed to be.”⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ ⁣ This is beautiful. The 4th trimester is very real and there’s so much pressure to “bounce back” after having a baby. I know I fell into that trap. My mom kept telling me that it was ok to take it slow, rest and let my husband take care of me, and I thought “ok, so I don’t *need* to do all the chores, but what if I do some of them, the. I’ll really be on top of this new mom thing!!”⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ We judge our days and ourselves by our accomplishments, but after giving birth it really is so, so important to take it slow. Let everything sink in, stay in the fuzzy warm bubble of baby cuddles, give yourself time to heal fully and your baby time to just get used to the world. 🌎⁣⁣ ⁣⁣. ⁣⁣. .⁣⁣ ⁣⁣. ⁣⁣. Just a mama with her daughter (still sounds strange saying this) and a soft squishy belly 11 days postpartum. I’m so sentimental (a big softy now) that this is my last baby I want to hold onto the squish for as long as I can. I can’t believe this space grew, sustained and nourished two lives. Once upon a time I never wanted to have children and here I am with two, beyond grateful is understatement. After this pregnancy I have a bigger love, respect and appreciation for my body. I can look in the mirror and love what I see which didn’t happen after River and is so much more important now I have a daughter. There is no rush to exercise or find the body I didn’t loose, just to strengthen the core and close the two and half finger abdominal gap I have. Who else loves their squishy post baby belly? #11dayspostpartum #postpartum #slowpostpartum #postpartumbelly #newborn #11daysold #lovetheskinyourein #lunaheart #plantpowered #veganmum #sentimental #bigsofty

🌛TIRED SIGNS🌛 . . . Do you know that your baby sends you signs to let you know they are ready for sleep? It’s easy to miss these little messages in our fast-paced lives where we have to do the kindy drop off, stop at the shop quickly, get the washing on or are distracted by other kids. But I’m confident that when you KNOW what to look for that you will notice it and be able to ACT and quickly get that bub to bed! . . . 🌛TIRED SIGNS include . . • Decreased activity & moving slower • Less vocal • Jerking arms • Sucking slows & is weaker • Bub appears quiet & calm • Yawning • Spilling milk • Less focused on faces • Appears disinterested . . . . . 🌛OVERTIRED SIGNS…uh oh! The sleep bus came and you missed it! . . • Fussing • Rubbing eyes • Red eyes/eyebrows • Irritable • Grumpy • Crying . . . 🌛Catching your bubs tired signals and acting before they get overtired will make settling and sleep so much easier! 🙌✨ . . . 📷 by @tailsandwings

Thank you, Aimee & Nick, for welcoming me in to your magical post partum space, to capture these beautiful moments 💫 This is the type of newborn photography that I capture...you, in your space, doing your thing as naturally and comfortably as possible. No styled shots, no matching outfits. Authentic moments, captured forever, that will never happen again. These are the moments that need to be documented ✨ . #repost @ripsnorter ✨ This has been us for 11 days now. The safe, protected post partum we dreamt of & worked so hard for. Time moving slowly. The place you were born. Fire, lavender & frankincense, herbal tea. Friends preparing our meals while living our baby from afar, allowing us the space to create a new kind of normal. We will never get this time again. The world can wait for you, my Zeven. We will take as long as we need. #protectpostpartum

🌛BYE FELICIA!🌛 . . . 🌛The way your baby sleeps is not a reflection on you & your mothering abilities. If your baby isn't napping during the day, you haven't failed. If your baby is waking up a million times a night its nothing you have or havent done. It's your baby being a baby and is dependent on multiple factors, many of which are out of your control! I'm looking at YOU regressions! 🙄 . . . 🌛You my love, are doing a great job! Your baby needs to be loved, fed and kept safe. I'm certain you are doing all of those things. Which means you are excelling! . . . 🌛Keep on going! Everytime you have a negative thought, replace it with a positive one. The power of positive thinking is a HUGE! If you are struggling, genuinely in struggle street...please tell someone. A problem shared is a problem halved. Don't sit in silence. . . . 🌛Have a beautiful day. Squeeze that bubba, sit in the sunshine & enjoy a warm cup of tea. Life is good. . . . 📷 by @quotesbychristie

What we do is incredible, what we sacrifice is huge and the love we get in return, it's like no other. . . . 🌛On a sleepy note, what sleep issue are you struggling with at the moment? What do you wish you had a magic wand to fix? The early morning wake ups are my 🤯 If only I knew a sleep consultant! 🤣 . . Have a beautiful day!! 📷 by @thefive15

🌛4m regression CONT..🌛 . . We know WHAT the 4 month sleep regression is and WHY it happens. But HOW do we deal with it? Here are some suggestions, . Feed your baby - A LOT! Bub will need to eat more than usual. All of this growing and developing increases bubs appetite. You can try tanking your little one up during the day by making sure he has GOOD feeds during each feed, not snack feeds regularly. If you are BF it's important baby gets the hind milk (the full fat yummy stuff at the end of the feed) not just the foremilk (the sweet milk at the start of a feed) Remember BF is so much more than just eating. The connection and comfort bub gets from you is equally as important. You can try to offer a dream feed at around 1030pm, this will give a little top up. Some babies might find this lovely, some may find it irritating. . . . If naps have been shorter or less during the day then move bedtime earlier. If daytime naps are scarce in addition to lots of night wake ups this can be caused by overtiredness. Put bubby to bed earlier to give them some extra sleep . . Black it out! I know, I say it all the time. Black the room OUT! Even the tiniest bit of light coming into bubs bedroom has the ability to block the production of melatonin (the sleepy hormone) which disrupts sleep. Add in some white noise and you will have the perfect sleep space . . Swaddle your baby if he is not yet rolling. This will provide comfort and reassurance. If he IS rolling then let him practice his new skills during the day! . . If your bubby only settles with a breastfeed or dummy this is NOT the time to try to change habits. These sudden dramatic changes can make you feel like you are doing something wrong, you simply aren't. Your baby is developing & growing BEAUTIFULLY. Your little one just needs your love & support to get through the other side 💜 . . Remember, your baby is an individual! Every baby is different. Every MONTH he will be different. Sometimes we just need to go with the flow and what our little one needs from us right in that moment. . . . Self care is SO important in times like this. A whole post will be dedicated to the topic next week! I hope this helps!!! Xx

. Bem-vindo silêncio... . Com @maes_imperfeitas 💕

Mamas - this gig is so full on. No one is perfect, no one has the answer or the best way to do things. We are all just winging it and making it up as we go. 🌛What the HECK is the 4 month sleep regression?!🌛 . . . 🌛Eeek, the 4 month sleep regression, I'm sure you've heard of it, maybe counting down the days til it hits! Perhaps you are in the thick of it right now. Ok, lets get down to the nitty gritty. Let me explain exactly what it is. . . . 🌛A sleep regression is in fact a PROGRESSION. Your baby is laying down new neural pathways in the brain. Bub is making huge leaps forward in neurological, physical and social development. This is hard work for a little baby! Your baby will typically develop new skills after this regression including rolling, babbling, recognition of familiar faces - and heightened levels of separation anxiety. Your little one is suddenly much more aware of the world around them. . . . 🌛But why the night waking? What happened to your perfect SLEEPER? Well, lets scoot back to the newborn days. Newborn babies spend most of their sleep time in 2 stages of deep sleep. This is why newbies are so floppy and relaxed when you put them down. Once a baby hits 4 months they then form more adult like sleep cycles and begin moving through all 4 sleep cycles. . . . 🌛As adults we have 'partial awakenings' through the night as we pass through the lighter stages of sleep. We might open our eyes or move around in bed and go straight back to sleep. For a baby of 4 months they will awaken and then look for whatever they got them to sleep in the first place. This might have been mama's milk, rocking or their dummy. The transition to a new sleep cycle alongside their busy brain can result maaaany overnight wake ups & a tired cranky bubba (and mum!) . . . 🌛So what do you do?! With any new developmental phase some babies will need more cuddles & reassurance than others. Tomorrow I will cover what you can do to deal with this sometimes tricky time in regards to sleep. Watch this space! . .

Thursday Morning Bakes! These oat flapjacks (and oat cookies) were my go-to for the early postpartum weeks. They were easy to make in large batches, kept well in an airtight container and more importantly could be eaten one handed easily in those early newborn weeks of cluster feeding and needing all the fourth trimester cuddles!! If you’re visiting a new mum in the coming weeks, definitely consider bringing food, snacks, a voucher for Just Eat or a local takeout. It’s so important that we eat well in the post partum period to replenish our bodies, particularly if we are breastfeeding and literally sustaining another human! It seems almost cruel that this period is also often one of the toughest times to make a decent meal which is why I liked these “one handed” snacks. Oats were a brilliant boost to my milk supply too. There’s not much scientific evidence to support this, but definitely lots of other women who report that oats were the best thing to boost their milk supply and unlike lots of other supplements, a bowl of porridge or a flapjack is a relatively low risk potential lactation support to try 😂 It may be linked to the fact that oats are high in iron (so super if your iron levels are low). Also - who doesn’t like a Hobnob or two with a cup of tea? . . . . . . . #baby #birthing #thefourthtrimester #gentlebirth #meath #makeitmeath #momlife #mother #motherhood #irish #irishparentingblogger #takebackpostpartum #postpartum #postnatal #breastfeeding #normalisebreastfeeding #slowpostpartum #newbaby #newmum #newmother #holisticparenting #naturalparenting #organic #health #wellness #theartofslowliving #mindfulmotherhood #baking #homecooking

Just a slow Wednesday morning 🌻 PS after I shot this photo - I had the thoughts “oh god, look how big my butt looks. Look at my cellulite, I have to retake this I can’t post this.” Not a proud moment, but it’s the truth. And the real truth is I haven’t been very kind to my #postpartum body. I have said very self effacing things about it, in the pursuit of being funny, which is what I sometimes do - use humour as a shield to deflect from being vulnerable and present. And because perception is a tricky animal, you may look at this photo and think - she has nothing to complain about, she looks fine, be grateful for what you have etc. And you’re right. And I challenge you to say those things about yourself too. Loving our bodies as they are isn’t something we as women get a lot of practice in, everywhere we turn we are inundated with information on how we should look and feel. And like anything we want to change and get good at, we have to practice. So I am practicing turning my “I hates” into my “I am grateful for”. I am bypassing the easy laugh for a tougher moment of vulnerability and love. Because this body has gotten me here. She grew my son. She feeds my son. She is powerful. #mypostpartumbody . . . . . . . #gratitude #grateful #happy #bliss #tiu #tiumama #pregnancy #wellness #health #maternity #ayurveda #postpartum #digdownriseup #yoga #meditation #selfcare #mother #motherhood #love #baby #babies #slowmotherhood #slowpostpartum #slowliving #wildmotherhood #wild #staywild #love #remywildandfree

Staying in bed after baby is one of the ways we reclaim postpartum. Prioritizing this sacred time to heal and bond with baby is paramount and should not be considered a luxury. Staying in bed for at least the full week after baby almost ALL of the time. Getting out to visit the midwife, take a bath is about all that should be done. This might feel strange but it's an excellent way to kick off your Fourth Trimester. This is the reason that I love to bring Mothers their meals in bed. . This is a challenge for many, especially in our society that seems to value this rest as unimportant. . For those that struggle with a slow postpartum, set yourself up for this by enlisting help: < Have meals brought to you and eat in bed. << Set up a nursing station so you have everything you need at arms length. <<< Read in bed <<<< Most important SLEEP in bed. <<<<< Do all the self care thing IN BED including allowing the space for quiet and stillness. . Let people wait on you. Why? It's not to spoil you, although you deserve that, your body vitally needs deep healing. . There is a phrase that you hear: <<< First week (pp) IN the bed <<< Second week (pp) NEAR the bed. As in being able to touch it, essentially staying in the same room as the bed. . Resist the urge to DO the things, to FIX the things, to CLEAN the things, to ENTERTAIN the visitors. . Boundaries = Loving Kindess to yourself. . We often hear about mothers having a bit more postpartum bleeding during the second week postpartum - you wanna know one of the common reasons? They are moving around too much. Their body is SCREAMING I am not ready!! .⠀ .⠀ .⠀ .⠀ .⠀ #sittingthemonth #FourthTrimester #PostpartumCare #Newborns #NewMother #NewbornMother #GoldenMonth⠀ #PostpartumSupport #MotheringtheMother #HealingArts #SacredMonth #Motherhood #SmallBatchWellness #FoodisMedicine #oxytocin #slowpostpartum #sleepdeprivation

REST In a world that tells you that you have to do it all, that you need to bounce back, that you must be all things to all people, let me be a different voice. You are allowed to rest. You are allowed to take time for you. You are allowed just be. So sit with your baby those extra few minutes. Put your feet up during nap time. Leave the to do list for today. Because there will always be dishes to do, laundry to wash, food to make and places to be. But there won't always be a baby who wants to sleep on your chest, a body that desperstely needs to recover, a new mother within you who needs your love and support. The time you take now is invaluable both for you and baby. This slower, gentler postpartum is what helps you not only connect to your child but to yourself as well building strong relationships that will continue to grow. So be kind to yourself, give yourself time and honour your need to rest. For in rest you will find your power. #embraceandglow #igniteyourmommaglow #rest #youareallowedtorest #slowpostpartum #gentle #bekindtoyourself #mindset #postpartum #mother #child #support #love #power #powerful #mindbody mindfulness #4thtrimester #motherhood #recover

🌛MONDAY FEELS🌛 . . . I hope your week is off to a fine start! After waking up feeling blerrgggh, I wanted to stay in my PJs all day however I dragged myself into my workout clothes and out the door for a run. This is my daily self care and I cannot recommend it enough!! Being alone first thing in the morning and running to my music is saaahhh GOOD! It's frowned upon to blast gangster rap around small children so this is the perfect way to still get low as a mama #fromthewindowtothewall 🤣🤣 . . . I have been a member to SO MANY gyms but I rarely keep up going and I find it hard to book into the creche and go regularly etc. I love @thejunglebody classes here in Perth for a great workout, the music is 🙌 so good! 🌛TODDLER BEDS🌛 . . . When should you move your toddler from a cot to a bed? My recommendation is not until they at ATLEAST 2.5 years preferrably closer to 3 years old. Before this age toddlers don't have the impulse control or understanding to stay in bed. It's all just a hilarious game of up & down! 🤪For them...not you!! . . . Reasons you may want to move your little one into a bed; . . 🌛A new baby is coming. If you can, buy another cot! The last thing you want is to be dealing with a toddler on the loose + evening cluster feeding with a newborn!! 🤯 Moving your toddler out of his cot for the new addition can create jealousy & negative feelings. Your toddler will already have disruptions to his sleep from the new baby crying, better to keep his cot his safe space. If you MUST use his cot - pack it away for months before bringing it back out when the baby is almost due. This can be a little easier for the toddler to accept. . . . 🌛 Your baby is having sleep issues. Transitioning your little one to a big bed won't be a quick fix for sleep issues. If anything it will ADD to the problems. It's best to address these issues and nip them at the bud! . . . . 🌛Toddler climbing out of bed! This is a tricky one. Of course safety comes first and we want to avoid any injuries! A few tips for climbers include; a sleeping bag for all sleeps, sleeping bag on backwards or inside out, a shirt over the sleeping bag! . . . It's very exciting and fun to get a 'big boy' or 'big girl' bed however resist the temptation until your little one is at an age where you can set some loving boundaries about the importance of staying in his bed. . . . 🌛How old was your little one when you made the transition? Did it go smoothly? Share below! . . . Beautiful 📷 of my girls by @belleverdiglionephotography

🌛GO YOU!🌛 . . Goodmorning beautiful lady! Guess what? Your baby loves you. UNCONDITIONALLY. Your bub doesn't care if you live in your pjs, or that your legs haven't been shaved in 3 (ahem 6) months, or that the house looks like a laundry BOMB hit it! . . . Nup! All that teeny, tiny human wants is you. You are his entire world...and you are enough. If doing your best means getting out of bed in the morning then...well done you! . . . Big 💜 have a wonderful day! . . . 📷 by @elsieandnell

🌛DUMMY🌛 . To dummy or not to dummy? This is a personal choice! Heres a few things to consider... . . Sucking is a natural survival reflex in newborns & something they mastered long before birth! There are 2 types of sucking - nutritive (feeding) & non-nutritive (comfort) Each of these are ABSOLUTE bliss for a baby! Benefits of sucking including lowering heart rate, blood pressure, & stress levels. Sucking releases endorphins - these transport bubba to a blissful state of relaxation! Scientists have even found sucking a dummy decreases the risk of SIDS - amazing! . . WHEN to introduce a dummy? Well, its a good idea to wait until you have established breastfeeding. It's important to recognize a newborns hunger cues and to always feed him first rather than continually give the dummy. In saying that once you are happy bub is feeding well then a dummy can be a great option especially for particularly 'sucky' babies. . . Can a dummy negatively impact my baby's teeth? Well, yes and no. The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry advise that pacifier use can negatively impact teeth when used longterm with the greatest impact in children OVER the age of 4. The AAPD actually recommend dummies for younger babies due to the numerous benefits. There are many 'orthodontic friendly dummies' If you are concerned! . . When to ditch the dummy? Some mums will aim to get rid of the dummy when it begins to cause sleep issues. For example bub wakes up everytime it falls out! Under 6 months, you could go cold turkey. 6 months and over its possible to teach baby to replace his dummy. Try putting it in his hand instead of straight into his mouth. Then lead his hand showing him what to do! Lots of practice during the day can help. . . Around 7-9 months isn't a great time to wean from the dummy. Infact bub finds so much comfort in his dum at this age that it would be quite cruel to take it away! Better to wait until hes bigger - closer to 2 or 3 to break the habit. . . I hope this was helpful! Does your little one have a dummy? Or 10?! 🤣 Let me know below! . . . Beautiful bubba 📷 via @ministylemag by @anneaskjaer

🌛AMAZING🌛 . . You are amazing mama! Growing, birthing, feeding, caring for a baby is the hardest job in the world! Especially because....#teamnosleep 😴 . . . You are doing amazing!! You should be so proud 💕💕 . . . 🌛Tip for the day! Its rainy and cosy here in Perth. It can sometimes feel a little claustrophobic being stuck inside with a baby and/or little kids. The BEST thing to do is listen to podcasts!! It feels like an adult conversation and some good mental stimulation. 🌛CAT NAPS🌛 . . . The dreaded catnap! You FINALLY get your sweet baby to sleep 🎉 You creep out of the room, buzz around the house clearing things away, make your cuppa, sit on the couch aaaand....WAAAHH 👶😭 . . . WHY?! Every time! Do they have an inbuilt sensor?! 🤯 No, but they do have a 45 minute sleep cycle and when it comes to the end of that cycle, bub has a partial awakening . . . This might be a little cry, or a squeak or a full blown yell! If babe can settle himself then given the opportunity he may go back to sleep. If not, he will need your help to resettle him back to sleep. This can be quite difficult as he is not as sleepy as he was before his nap! You might think to get him up now but try not to, he really does need some more sleep . . . . Factors such as a dark room, white noise & making sure babe is not overtired all help in avoiding cat napping! . . . Does your little one have a case of the cat naps? Are you squeezing everything you can into 45 minutes during the day? Shall I cover more on this topic? Let me know! 💕 . . . . Gorgeous little twinnies 📷 by the incredible @tailsandwings

Thanks @fremantleacupuncture for this book recommendation. The First Forty Days by Heng Ou. We are doing our best to have a slow first month with our newborn, 20 days in. It’s still hard to resist the urge to clean, cook and do the care for our toddler, but the reality is all my time and energy is going into the newborn. I’m lucky to have the support of my partner (who is getting cabin fever), and our mothers during this time. #slowpostpartum #thefirstfortydays #postpartum #naturalhealth #chinesemedicine #fourthtrimester #seventhseries

Every woman deserves to feel like a queen during the post partum period. To be celebrated and cared for by her community. With all it’s trials and tribulations this period brings, it also hold enormous power in that vulnerability. . All a new born baby needs is a physically and emotionally nourished new born Mother. A Mother that can be intensely happy and intensely emotional at the same time, cry, process, glow and be born. The birth of her, of the Mother in her, needs so the holding of space. Letting her feel safe, not judged, not overwhelmed with advice whats best. . . She is raw, she is open, she is learning. Taking baby steps. Everything you say comes in hard. Respect in awe how Her births unfolds. Hold her. Trust the process the way you should trust the birthing process. . Just like the waves of birth in which contractions come and go, the big unknown of how things may go. Let her feel safe to go with the flow of it all, to find her way. #postpartumrevolution #postpartumrevolutie #postpartumqueen #postpartumdoula #doula #utrecht #doulautrecht #doulapaulina #4thtrimester #fourthtrimester #breastfeeding #nursing #newborn #newbornmother #kraamtijd #slowpostpartum #takebackpostpartum #reclaimpostpartum #respectwomen #birthisafeministissue #nopaternalism #trustwomen #wecandobetter
