💥Mr J’s Success Story💥 One of our amazing patients is sharing his injury and rehab journey at Physiofit with our followers.🤴 While on vacation during an African Safari he fell off a 4x4 and sustained an unstable displaced humeral fracture of the arm. With such a large displacement space, there was obvious neural problems that affected his strength and sensation all the way down to his fingers.🚑 When he initially came in, he had almost no movement in his shoulder – barely able to lift up a few degrees in front and to the side with no rotation at all. Update on my injury so far 🥳 miles run last week: 21 , I’ve done my rehab drills every day; and 3 x strength/conditioning sessions done last week. Being injured is rubbish I miss running fast, and this will be week 4 of reduced miles, but I’m grateful for the cross training I am able to do, and I’ve enjoyed working on my strength a bit more again 😊 Running isnt easy and the journey never linear. 😂 I am definitely looking at every runner running fast right now and thinking, I hope you’re appreciating being able to run like that! "Deep brain stimulation (DBS) a boon." Parkinson's disease is one the most terrible one with high mortality rate. Deep brain stimulation is a neurosurgical procedure having similar effects as of Parkinson medications and drugs. Surgery reduce the symptoms but does not change the underlying course of disease. Older methods like thaladotomy, pallidotomy target the brain cell and cause severe destruction leading to symptoms. REFERRED PAIN🔥 - Referred pain is pain felt elsewhere than at the site of the lesion - “Deep somatic pain and visceral pain are often felt far from their point of source. In consequence, the examiner needs to know the patterns of pain reference so as not to be misled about where to search for the seat of the trouble. Diagnosis of orthopedic lesions often rests entirely on history and clinical examination and is therefore almost impossible if the rules and conditions relevant to referred pain are not clearly understood” - “It should be stressed that root pain reference does not necessarily mean that a nerve is involved. For instance, pain at the anterior aspect of the leg does not necessarily mean that a nerve structure (L3, femoral nerve or peripheral branches of the femoral nerve) is involved. Although inflammation of the dural sleeve of the L3 nerve root does of course lead to pain extending in the L3 dermatome, the same pain can be provoked by a lesion in any other tissue belonging to the L3 segment (e.g. hip joint or psoas bursa). There will not be any difference in the nature and extent of the pain. Does your hip pop or sound like a cement mixer?! 😱😱 -💥💥’Snapping’ Hip 💥💥 Snapping Hip is often reported by patients when they feel an uncomfortable rubbing deep in the Hip when doing leg raises or running. As you can see from the diagram, the culprit is the psoas. When tight and weak it causes this bow-stringing effect as it inserts over the anterior hip. This exercises is aimed at lengthening and strengthening through a Heavy-Slow-Resistance (HSR) protocol to avoid such discomfort. . This simple drill is awesome as a stand-alone exercise or as an activation drill. . It’s a big winner because: . ✔️Portable! ✔️ Really isolates the hip flexors. ✔️ Constant tension nails the flexors ! ✔️ Easy to execute! . The aim’s to perform a Marching movement with the banded leg. Really think about driving that knee into your chest and then slowly unloading the tension. The opposite leg should be planted to prevent rotational movement at the hip, improving isolation of the hip flexors and anchoring the exercise. 🔥Adductor Strength🔥 - 👉🏼 I have gotten several requests on adductor strength so here are some of my go to moves to strengthen the adductors/groin area. - ✅ Copenhagen Plank: This exercise works both adductors both isometrically and concentrically. This is one of my favorites and is pretty challenging. Fond a bench and try to hold for one minute. You can bring the bottom leg up and down as shown in the video or just hold it in place. ✅ Hip Add lift off: This one works best if you put in alot of effort. Actively try to lift the ankle off the ground as high as you can. When at the top, continue to fight to bring the leg higher. The harder you try, the harder the exercise will be. ✅ Eccentric Cossack Squat: This is great to incorporate as your working on eccentric control which is great for injury mitigation as well. Only gas as low as you can control. Go slow and try not to use momentum. - 🙋‍♂️ Tag a friend who needs this.

Do your first pull up. Here is a selection of exercises and some tips to get your first pull up. All of the movements focus on the vertical type pulling motion that is needed to complete a full pull up. . . 1️⃣ - First movement is a scapular pull up. Start in a dead hang position. Then, think of depressing and retraction your shoulder blades. Hold for a few seconds, then relax . . 2️⃣ - Eccentric pull up - use a box or step to start in a higher position. Perform a slight jump to start at the top of the rep, then slowly lower down under control. . . 3️⃣ - End range hold. Again, using a step or box - start at the top of the rep and hold. Make sure to maintain a good down and back position of your shoulder blades and keep chin tucked. . . 4️⃣ - Band assisted pull up. Use a resistance band and wrap around the pull up handles. Be sure to use enough resistance to complete full motion, but be sure that the “help” of the band isn’t too much where you aren’t getting the appropriate stimulus . . 5️⃣ - Last exercise is a basic machine pull down movement. This is simulating the vertical pulling motion and can be a great exercise to progressively overload over time and build up strength as accessory work for the pull up. . . 🐥 - Tag or share this video with someone who could use a little help getting their first pull up! . .

Hip Mobility‼️⠀ .⠀ Tag a friend that needs to improve their Hip Mobility🔥⠀ .⠀ Additionally, hip mobility deficits have been found in people with hip osteoarthritis (Birrell 2001), sports related groin pain (Nevin 2013), and femoroaceteabular impingement aka FAI (Kubiak-Lankger 2007).⠀ .⠀ ⠀ When FAI and labral tears are present, one typically exhibits reduced hip mobility into flexion, internal rotation, and adduction (Burnett 2006). Improving mobility in the hip joint does not require inventing new mobility; it simply means regaining what was lost in not allowing your hip to be in those ranges over time. This calls for [P]Rehab!⠀ .⠀ ⠀ It is important to minimize the deleterious effects of hip mobility deficits. When hip mobility is adequate, there are better arthrokinematics, which leaves you with a happy hip.⠀ Here are 2 exercises to help with hip mobility:⠀ ⠀ 1-Runners Lunge⠀ ✅Attempt to drive your knee towards that elbow⠀ 2- Hip Flexion --Airplane Pose⠀ ✅Try to maintain your balance for the entirety of this exercise!⠀ ❌Don't round at the back when going into an airplane pose, this will challenge your hip flexion in a weight bearing manner.

Improve Your Cutting POWER❗️⠀ .⠀ ⛹️‍The crossover step is a must-learn technique for any athlete when it comes to frontal plane movement drills. Essentially you have 2 options for lateral movements. Either a pure lateral shuffle (feet never cross each other) or the crossover step (feet cross over each other).
