My protein shake is packed with so many different superfoods it’s truly insane. It has a blend of super greens. Yassss! It’s has moringa, spinach, kale, and matcha to name some. I love spinach and have just recently started to eat kale. I’ve had moringa powder mixed in with my tea, but the after taste was daunting. Matcha is something I have not tried yet in a tea nor powder. I’m going to put that on my list of things to try. • • Just imagine what a blend of all of those combined would do to your health and fitness! Matcha alone revs up your metabolism to burn calories and is a natural detoxifier 😬 Moringa is rich antioxidants. If you use it in a powder, be careful not to use to much of it. It helps clean you out as well 🥴 • • I had kale the other day. I find it salty. Even though I put onions and garlic with a hint of cayenne, it was salty 😩 But when I drink my protein shake, it’s mostly sweet. Because I use an oat based milk. I don’t drink milk, so I couldn’t tell you how it taste with it. My 1 year old doesn’t even drink regular milk. We can’t handle the lactose so I look for alternatives. This was my starting point. I had just had my first baby and I had gained 68 pounds. 68!!!! 😱😱😱 . . For over a decade after that I struggled with fatigue and poor eating and never felt good about myself. I constantly put the needs of my kids in front of mine. I ate crap and never worked out. 🍕🍟🍦 . . It wasn’t until a good friend invited me to participate in a challenge group that I finally made myself a priority. Slowly but surely, with the support of the challenge group, I got more consistent. One step led to another and I find myself, at age 49, to be the healthiest I’ve been my whole life both in body and mind. 💪🏻 . . Now I find myself in a position to share my fitness journey and to help others become healthier and feel good about themselves. I have a new group starting next week that involves short 20-30 min workouts for 100 days. A group of us are doing it together. Day 40 - Saturday: B: egg white scramble with aidells chicken Apple Sausage L: rX bar D: aloha chicken burgers with lettuce wrap, pickles, sauerkraut and mustard. Workout 27.1 #kizentraining #sheiko Weights are starting to climb, as we get closer to the last test of the program. Heavyish Squats(a bit above Rx) felt good today. Still working on positioning on bench. Slowed tempo during workul sets. Overall felt better than they have been. Tried a yoga mat thanks to @rclarksbelly’s advice to reduce slipping on the bench. The man who will leave Tyngsboro at 5am drive all the way up to Vermont when his work needs him over there and he will still call me and tell me 'I will make it there for the 6:15pm class CK!' Sometimes I wonder if he is driving or running to work because his calves are not human made lol. I met Bruce at the park for his first classes in 2017, he came with his wife Dawn. Dark 5:00AM morning's he came in and gave me 150% of his energy and oh how he is an evolved, stronger, healthier man now. I Bruce told with the mornings getting colder, I will be trying to find another location, his response? 'Where you go, we go!' I new him and his family saw me as more than just a trainer when the week my son was born they personalized onesies stating 'Careful, my dads a Personal Trainer!' (There is no visual evidence that I may or may not have shed a tear when I opened them so we will stop that ther 😏). When you see Bruce working out he challenges himself every single time, he lifts more, pushes harder, runs faster and you should see him jump, did I mention his calves already? Bruce you make sure that you find the time for you health, you challenge yourself, you inspire people and that's one of the reasons you have earned this weeks title as CKS ASS KICKING BEAST OF THE WEEK! Trying to get through this Monday has been crazy and I am 💀. Class from 9-2:30, leg day in an 85 degree + gym, so much studying, and ya girl hasn’t even eaten dinner yet and it’s almost 10 pm 😅 but we’re grindin! 2/3 practical and written exam is tomorrow so wish me luck 🤞🏼

😎Here’s the second episode of this insulin series! You have certainly heard that mainly carbohydrates are responsible for driving insulin to the roof when ingested. - ☝🏽However, the problem with this line of thinking is that also protein highly stimulates insulin secretion. In fact, in Boelsma et al. study we can see how even at the same caloric amount, the two compared meals have actually two diverse responses to insulin secretion: the highest one in protein actually caused an higher insulin secretion along with higher perceived levels of satiety and postprandial wellness suchlike better relaxation and alertness. The lower protein meal, on the other hand, caused an higher spike in blood glucose levels and a slightly lower insulin response. - 👨🏻‍🔬Another study by Pal & Ellis, in which the meals had 51 grams of protein and 11 grams of carbohydrates, shows how whey protein besides having an higher insulin response when compared to egg, tuna and turkey protein, also had the strongest effect on appetite suppression. - 🤔Interestingly, in the same reported study the caloric consumption in the upcoming meal was lower in the whey group, admittedly reducing the overall food intake than when the subjects were fed with the other types of protein. - 🤓The take-homes from these studies are that amino-acids, which are the building block of protein, can directly stimulates the pancreas to secrete insulin without having to be converted to glucose first such as carbohydrates. Focusing too much on insulin rather than your overall diet and adherence is like "missing the forest for the trees" thus stop worrying on this precious hormone which actually assists in controlling blood sugar and regulating appetite. - 📊Infographic by @eliaolivierobarbon
