Having been asleep for 8+ hours you want to kickstart the muscle building machinery ASAP! Getting 25-40g of protein inside you at breakfast will achieve this. - 2️⃣ At the other end of the day is another key time. Getting 25-40g of protein pre-bed limits the amount of time you’re going without nutrients while you sleep. A slow digesting protein source like cottage cheese or casein protein is a good choice. Having this with some fibrous carbs and a fat source will also slow absorption so you get a drip feed of nutrient while you sleep. My favourite is oats, mixed with chocolate casein powder, and peanut butter. Nomnom! - 3️⃣ Pre-workout. This doesn’t mean right before your workout but, you do want to be well fed before a training session. So, within a couple of hours of training be sure to eat a serving of protein. Given carbs are also the primary fuel source for high intensity activity (e.g. lifting weights) it also makes sense to have eaten some of these. As a rule of thumb 25-30% of your daily carbs. - 4️⃣ Post-workout. Source: internet A two-time cancer survivor with multiple other health concerns, Kay Koziol, was overweight and on track to become the unhealthiest version of herself she had ever been. It was after a trip to celebrate her in-laws’ 50th wedding anniversary that she finally understood she needed to take action. “Of course there were lots of pictures taken, and every picture I saw of myself, I couldn’t believe it was me,” she tells Reader’s Digest. “I started to listen to myself talk to other people and I was making excuses about my weight. I blamed it on my thyroid and other medical issues, while stuffing my face full of junk food.” When Koziol returned home, she made a commitment to change her health for the better and signed up for an exercise boot camp. It was then that her health turned a corner. Through the changes she made in diet and exercise, Koziol, now 44, lost a total of 60 pounds and gained a healthier lifestyle. “I am no longer on any medication, I’m pain free, and I am stronger and healthier than I have ever been in my life,” she says. Eat lean protein at every meal Muscle is made from protein so you need plenty of it. Stick to lean proteins like chicken, turkey, fish, and lean cuts of beef/pork. This will keep the calories down will still getting plenty of protein. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 2. Eat fruits and veggies daily These are you fillers that are going to keep you full. Many people will try to make up for it by skipping their next few meals, or doing tons of cardio as a means to 'balance' their mistake.⁠⠀ ⠀⁠⠀ Please don’t do this.⁠⠀ ⠀⁠⠀ ✅ Accept that you had an 'off day’…nobody is perfect, and beating yourself up about it does nothing to help.⁠⠀ ⠀⁠⠀ ✅ The best thing you can do is to just get right back on track the next meal/day. Don't let one episode of overeating turn into a whole week of overeating. 👉The truth is, we can’t decide where we lose our body fat. Everybody has their trouble spots, and for a lot of people, belly fat is a big one. So while you can’t spot reduce—doing sit ups, crunches, etc, are useless for getting rid of stomach fat, so you can stop doing those, right now—you CAN work to bring down your bodyfat overall. -- . 👉Here’s what I recommend. Start by cleaning up your diet. Get rid of the sugar and processed food. Load up on fruits, veggies, lean protein, and lots of water. That’s step one. After that, focus on short, high intensity bouts of exercise. Use resistance training and metabolic conditioning. Also, do as much walking as you can. Brisk walking is one of the ultimate secret weapons for getting rid of stubborn fat, especially when done in conjunction with a higher intensity exercise regimen. -- - ☝️Stress and sleep are the other major factors. Belly fat is often referred to as “stress fat” for a reason. Poor sleep and an overly nervous or excited lifestyle can attribute to fat accumulation in your lower stomach, love handles, etc. So be sure to have a good sleep hygiene protocol and ways of relaxing throughout the day. Disinterested (adjective) means:⁣ ⁣ ‘Having or feeling no interest in something.’ Which happens to mirror my expression in this post. ⁣ ⁣ This lengthy list of diets, clubs and pyramid schemes feed off of one’s active interest in fat loss, ‘being healthy’ and making money from friends and family. After all, body happiness, health and financial security are things human beings will always be interested in.⁣ ⁣ But the problem is the disconnect between glamourous possibilities offered by such companies (based on their well marketed promise) and what actually happens as a result over time. ⁣ ⁣ To those who are misinformed or uneducated regarding basic nutrition, the diets/clubs on this graphic appear interesting because they address problems and convince the consumer that they will solve them uniquely and quickly. ⁣ ⁣ But as my expression implies, we should be disinterested in such ideas. Disinterested in the perpetuation of desperation. In miraculous claims. In wasting our money. In accepting that fat loss is complex, confusing and miserable. In agenda driven pseudoscience. In succumbing to the hands of unsolicited parasites. Because there is nothing interesting about being miserable for periods of time, only to revert back to the eating habits that created our ongoing problems.⁣ ⁣ What is interesting though, is acceptance that we can learn about our existing diet. Improve our understanding of it. Include enjoyment. Sustain small change for big reward. Learn about our individuality and food behaviours. These things cost nothing. And they are real.⁣ ⁣ Instead of succumbing to the latest diet challenge in January, maybe it’s time to show disinterest towards the things that are designed to ransack our pockets whilst serving upon us temporary results embodied with misery, guilt and disordered eating. Instead, we can afford more interest in understanding the diet we already have. You can have whatever kind of coffee you want, just know what you are drinking and how it could relate to your goals ☕️ #repost @thefitnesschef_ The point of this post is not to strike fear into those who love to slurp regular caramel macchiatos. Instead the point is to inform with use of perspective. ⁣ ⁣ Though we refer to all of our coffee themed drinks as ‘coffee’, it is clear that one person’s preference compared to another’s may represent a monumentally different nutritional acquisition, especially over time. ⁣ ⁣ Simply put, coffee in its purest form contains 0 calories, a caloric calculation over time is therefore redundantly pointless. But should consistent selection of calorie inclusive coffee related beverages be consumed multiple times per day in bids to ‘wake up’, ‘perk up’ and enjoy a palatable drink, the caloric calculation may be significantly higher. And therefore, over time, an important dietary consideration.⁣ ⁣ There is nothing wrong with consuming cappuccinos, lattes or caramel macchiatos. But if one is persistently bemoaning lack of progress regarding composition, reduction of such beverages offer a very easy opportunity to support a caloric deficit without upheaval of habitual eating habits. ⁣ ⁣ Furthermore, selection of alternative coffee inclusive drinks at lower (or no) caloric cost can ensure that one still ‘gets their fill’ of daily coffee whilst also getting more progress in their compositional goal.⁣ ⁣ With greater the upheaval of one’s diet comes reduced chances of long term adherence. But with smaller upheaval comes greater chance of long term adherence.
