The squat is a compound full body exercise and should be part of any fitness routine whether you are male or female. It primarily trains the muscles of the legs (quads, hamstrings, calves, hip flexors) and the glutes (bum muscles). Squats are fundamental to the way you function in daily life and your future self will thank you if you start including them in your weekly routine. This functional exercise actually helps you to perform real-life activities as oppose to operating a piece of gym equipment. Your hold body is working during this movement pattern but you need to have good form and make sure you’re doing it properly. Keep your feet hip width apart, the weight in your heels, your shoulders back and down and eyes looking forward so your head and spine are in line. Sit your bottom back as you go down and keep the weight back in your heels. Go as low as you can whilst keeping your body as upright as possible. If you feel yourself folding in half then it’s too low. As you come up then push the floor away with your heels. Don’t put your weight in your toes at any point or you will strain your knees. Hold a chair or table if it helps you balance. Squats are one of the best functional exercises you can do - you’re building muscle, helping your muscles work more efficiently and helping mobility and balance. It targets the muscles that are getting lazy from too much sitting down. Repeat up to 20 depending on your level. You can also widen the distance of your feet, point your toes at 45 degrees and do the same but try to go lower. If you feel pain then don’t go as low or stop and seek advice 💕

♡ ♡ Update, last night showed me that a lot of the time limits are in our heads. I had been telling myself that 66kg was my limit on calf raises, until me and my friends knuckles down and focused, experimenting with reps and sets I made it all the way up here. V proud and V achey today 😖. ♡ Also learned yday that I’m going to need to be able to do a decent looking heel stretch on a stage by June. TGIF!! Today me and the hubby finished off Week 6 of LIIFT4 with LEGS HIIT! We were going to re-do week 5 with weights, but we decided to just go with the calendar, because next 2 weeks will be really tough. Have mercy! My legs are DUNZO! Sweat was rolling by the end. These are mainly meant for core exercises like bench, deadlift, squat, etc. Assistance exercises may require a different number of reps, generally higher (never 1 rep max). Of course these rep ranges, sets, and rest intervals don’t apply to all exercises. You need to carefully assess how much load is being used which could help in better identification of how much rest you should take. For example, using heavier weights close to your 1 rep max will typically require longer rest period versus weights that allow you to lift for a lot of reps may only need a short rest period. ⠀ 📍There is one obvious element missing. Its the assignment of weight. Typically you want to calculate how much weight you should lift for a certain number of reps based off your 1 repetition max lift. Tabata kettlebell swings in the kitchen with 36kg, followed by some goblet squats. When you only have ten minutes to get a quick workout in, that's still long enough to get some results! starting with the hamstring workout where we: 1. sit at the edge of the bench. 2. bend your knee slightly. 3. spread your legs and place your heels on the floor. it's a form of 'GOOD MORNING' exercise but seated so you put more tension on the hamstring than your lower back. Heavy hack squat for QUADS. there are 3 ways of doing this but it depends what part of the leg you want to target, so for quads: 1. place the feet lower on the base and just by your shoulder width. 2. squat down and push up with toes. 3. DO NOT LOCK OUT. I have a little knee injury on my left foot so I had to make sure someone is there just incase the weights overtake. Winter break is sadly over 🤒😪 With busy class schedules, assignments, work, and wanting to maintain some sort of a social life, trying to stay fit in college can really be a challenge. Here’s my tips that I’ve used since my first semester that made me pretty much a pro of balancing it all _ 1️⃣ Schedule Your Workout •Just like you schedule a time to write a paper or go to work, do the same for a time to work out. I’m definitely an organized person and LOVE my planner. Look for free time, and SCHEDULE a workout routine. All you really need is 45 minutes in my eyes to be active during your day and see results. _ 2️⃣ Use the Gym as a Study Break •Make the gym your happy place and a place to release any toxicity in your life. Everyone needs to take a break from life, and although many people “hate” working out, it can truly be very therapeutic. It will allow you to focus better, clear your mind, and be ready to get back to it once you are done. Study for a few hours, take an hour to get your workout in, and then get back to it! I promise you will feel better.

If there’s one thing that stays almost completely consistent within my life, it’s my training. 👷‍♂️ Building Lower Body Muscle & Strength by @jonashereora ⠀ Building Muscle is one of the most common reasons people hit the gym, but as you might've noticed, a lot of people don't know how to do it correctly. ⠀ 💥 To break it down easily, when you're training for muscle growth, you want to aim around 1-4 exercises per muscle group (depending on your fitness level), and 2-6 sets per exercise, with 6-15 reps (where you still have about 1-2 more reps 'in the tank' for the first sets). ⠀ When you want to build strength, it's quite similar with the exercise and sets range, but you usually want to increase the weight and decrease the amount of reps you perform to about 2-6 reps. ⠀ 🔥 The exercises in the image are all great for building muscle AND strength, so change them out between each other for a great muscle and strength exercise! ⠀ Are you building Muscle or Strength?
