I have been quite discouraged these past few weeks. It really sucks when I bust my ass just as hard as ever, but don’t see the results I would’ve been able to achieve in the past, before having gotten sick. My shoulder press is a perfect example of that, having basically no improvement from one year to the next. Luckily, my back is a different story. In a year, I’ve been able to increase the weight for lat pulldown by 50 lbs, or double what I was doing last year. Great for developing the Latissimus Doris Muscle, giving you more stability through your bench press deadlifts and assisting in Pull-up progression 💪 • The lat pulldown starting position involves sitting at the machine with the thighs braced, back straight and feet flat on the floor. Sharing 2 of my 4 exercises from today’s back day. Yep! I only did 4. 4 sets of each. They key is to make every single rep COUNT! Don’t just fly the tough the set, or use momentum to lift as heavy as possible. Really FOCUS on contracting the targeted muscle on the squeeze (concentric) and the negative (eccentric). Again, on these pull downs I’m really focusing on my lats and NOT my upper back. . . Workout felt good today after working all night last night, cardio first thing this morning (got on my @onepeloton bike 🚲 and did @codyrigsby ‘s #ladygaga ride and OMG is was a great one!! 🎉🙌) then my 2 hr nap, followed by FOOD! Using a narrower grip will increase your range of motion, engage your lats more, and allow you to use more weight. All of these will yield better growth. Personally, the widest I ever go on pull-ups and pull downs is slightly outside shoulder width like I’m doing here. For pull downs, I actually prefer the narrow V attachment instead of the one I’m using here although this is a standard attachment found in just about every gym. - Two other common mistakes people make when doing lat pulldowns is leaning too far back/using momentum and the opposite which is sitting too upright while failing to lean back at all. Un ejercicio para algunos inútil, dado que muchos afirman no conseguir una activación o sensación de dolor en la espalda al realizar este movimiento, sin embargo todo esto tiene que ver con la técnica que utilizamos . Una técnica que ayuda mucho es imaginar que empujas los codos hacia abajo en vez de aplicar tanta fuerza en los brazos, así sólo cargaremos los bíceps con un esfuerzo innecesario . Pulling my way into the new week. These are two of my favorite back exercises and are practically the same in function and muscles worked. The pull-up and lat pulldown are both staples in building a strong back. ————— The lat pulldown is typically seen as more of a beginner movement than because you can lower the weight to a point that is lower than your bodyweight. That way, people who can’t do a full pull-up can still work the motion. That is why lat pulldowns are an integral way to learn how to do pull-ups and improve them once they are under your belt. Eventually, you can reach a point where you add weight to your pull-ups to increase the challenge of the movement!

👆🏽ARE YOU MAKING THIS MISTAKE?👆🏽 ⠀⠀ Because I definitely used to 😅 ⠀⠀ 🔊SOUND ON FOR NARRATION ⠀⠀ Simple exercises don’t always mean easy exercises. The lat pulldown used to be my go-to exercise because I thought I could pull “a lot of weight”... little did I know, it was doing me more harm than good 🤣 ⠀⠀ Here are a few form tips to be aware of when you choose to do this AWESOME back widening exercise: ⠀⠀ ❌ DONT 1. Drive your torso back just to “pull more weight” 2. Try to keep a perfectly straight back throughout the whole movement 3. Lift your butt off the seat ⠀⠀ ✅ DO 1. Drive with your elbows first 2. Keep your lower back straight. You can have a slight arch in the mid-back to allow for better ROM (range of motion) 3. Happy #flexfriday team 💪🏽 . It’s also #flashbackfriday bc I do not currently look like this! This is what 10% body fat looks like, this is gruelling, intense, training, diet and lifestyle. This is planning and process and sacrifice and patience for a specific end goal, under the guidance of a good coach. It’s not maintainable year round or even month round, yes, some people do but they’re probably doing a lot of damage to their hormones, health and mental state. . I’m only saying this bc people will look at a pic like this and say “I want to look like that” assuming I or others look like this all the time. *edit “some people want to look like that” I can hear all the “ewws, I don’t want to look like that, muscles on women are gross” 🤣 This just happens to be when we take the most pics bc 🎶memories and it’d be sacrilege to not capture all that hard work and sacrifice! And of course for inspo for ourselves and others to know it’s possible to achieve. ⭕️ WIDER GRIP = WIDER LATS? NOT REALLY!⭕️⁣ ⠀ I’m pretty sure you’ve heard this countless times: “grip the bar at its widest to develop a wide back.” ⁣⠀ ✅ Muscles grow as a response to a continuous & progressive stimulus induced by training, fueled by proper nutrition. ⁣⠀ As long as the stimulus is the "right one" meaning that it is actually targeting the muscles you’re looking to develop by fully contracting them, at a slow enough speed through a high enough tension, they will grow. And by “growth” you get both: thickness & width (although yes, lats & teres major contribute to overall width of the back).⁣ ⁣⠀ When it comes to lat pulldown, a medium grip seems to works even better than a wider one, research shows: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/m/pubmed/24662157/⁣ ⁣⠀ And that obviously, because a narrower grip allows for better technique & ROM, which seems to have a greater impact on not only lats, but also trap & infraspinatus muscles as well.⁣ ⁣⠀ How wide, you ask? ⠀⁣ It’s gotta feel comfortable and you got to be able to perform full ROM in order to fully contract your back muscles, and maintain your shoulders in a safe spot: around 1.5 shoulder width.⁣ ⁣⠀ ❌ a wide grip for them ego lofters: “yuh braw, you need to grip the bar at the opposing edges of the bar to stimulate that width brah." ⠀⁣ By gripping the bar so wide, you will never be able to even fully complete the movement & let alone contract your back muscles at the bottom. Your shoulders won’t even be able to stay locked down, so they’ll be more likely to internally rotate forward and completely shut down the back engagement. As a result you’ll get a bro-spotter to help you out with your struggling reps, some shoulder pain, and probably zero or sub-optimal back development. 🤷‍♂️ ⁣⠀ Pick wisely & train safely. ⁣⠀ Via @pheasyque ⠀ 🔥🔥🔥TAG somebody who needs to see this!
