There are levels to everything. It’s easy to become unmotivated by how difficult a workout may be but you have to start somewhere right? Modify your exercises until you’re strong enough to do them in full. I remember when i wasn’t strong enough to do stage 3 but with hard work and consistency, i have gain the strength 😛⁣ ⁣ ⁣ 👑Stage 1: Keep your legs up and just grab the ball from your feet and extend the ball behind your head. Make sure you’re squeezing the ball between your feet to engage those inner thigh muscles!⁣ ⁣ 👑Stage 2. This time you’re grabbing the ball from your toes and extending it behind while bringing your legs down.(simultaneously) ⁣ ⁣ 👑Stage 3. With this one, it’s full motion. You’re grabbing the ball from your feet, extending behind the head, bringing the ball back between the feet and bringing the legs down with the ball. It’s AWESOME and SMART to MODIFY an EXERCISE!!! We have ALL tried an exercise that was too challenging for us and hopefully the only injury that occurred was to our ego! BUT I’m here to tell you: Do NOT feel bad about MODIFYING an exercise!! There are many reasons why we may need to modify or change or even EXCHANGE an exercise to suit our body and needs. Recently I went to a fitness training session excited to learn new drills, work with new equipment and was surprised that as we started the session, there was no offering or suggestion that modifying any exercise would be ok. (I just figured as educated trainers we did not need to be reminded that OF COURSE IT’S OK to modify. ) Yet when the exercise session started and I felt the need I to modify some of the high impact moves; instantly I could feel the disappointment from the lead trainer and I ....was shocked.... Why why why is there a negative stigma associated with modifying exercises?? Where did this come from? I know we all understand that when we exercise and are serious about results that one needs to get UNCOMFORTABLE, to squeeze harder , lift more, breath heavier, push our bodies out of their comfort zones ....BUT we also need to RESPECT our unique strengths and weaknesses! One CAN reach their goals even when modifications are needed! As a former university athlete (Go Waterloo Warriors) who has made my passion for fitness my career, plus experiencing 2 major hip surgeries; and recently fracturing my foot; I modify exercises and workouts ALL the time. It’s OK OK OK OK OK OK to modify!! OK?! This is WHY you should welcome modifications: 1. Your body peaks around 25-30, (sorry) and then declines...we need to continue to exercise according to our needs. (Not exercising makes things even worse!) Bones joints, muscles do experience wear and tear. Inactivity is also hard on the body and will effect us when and how we exercise. Our unique genetics also effects our exercise ( long legs, short torso, wide hips, etc all effect how we move!) Incorporating modifications can help our body function better, last longer, and hopefully prevent injuries! ...continued in comments

Single leg hip thrust and biateral hip thrust should be reached before progressing to the single leg ball hipthrust. If you progress too quickly and jump ahead to single leg ball hip thrusts when you haven’t built up a base of strength on easier variations, tissues in the lumbar spine, sacroiliac joint, or anterior hips could be irritated because your form will be compromised as you try to fling and contort your body to conduct the lift. You must be able to control your body through a full ROM, which means that the tempo is smooth and the body stays in the sagittal plane. Single leg hip thrust is an advanced exercise and athletes should only perform single leg ball hip thrusts until they’ve gained strength and coordination from single leg glute bridges and barbell hip thrusts. SCISSOR LIKE A PRO. • Excellent skill to use in the final third to beat your opponent off the dribble. • This movement needs to be practiced and rehearsed 1000’s of times so your brain and body are on the same page. • The best way to work on your scissor is to incorporate different variations of it into your training. • In this instance, you can work on a sharp aggressive scissor using a cruyff to reset the move. • 1️⃣Set yourself up two cones about 2-3 feet apart. 2️⃣Scissor very aggressively with your right foot. 3️⃣Take a sharp touch with your left foot. 4️⃣Immediately cruyff the ball back using your left foot to reset. 5️⃣Repeat!. • Work for 2-3 sets of 5 reps with each foot. Rest for a sufficient amount of time in between sets to make sure you are performing this with the right technique and high intensity. •

Workout Wednesday! A little late today, but I still made it just in time. I am using a 10 pound ball. The handles make it easier to keep control of. 1. Overhead press to plank: 10 reps 2. Plank pull through: 8 reps on each side 3. Plank row: 8 reps on each side 4. Roll up to leg extension: 8 reps on each leg.
